Fashion Week mania has bitten the dust and I am back at home caring for my sick kitty cats. I’m hoping for the best for them. Similarly, I’m also thinking positive thoughts for LaQuan Smith who recently unveiled his Spring 2011 collection at the Peninsula Hotel.
According to Fashionista: Guests were seated at round tables and models sashayed about the room pausing at each table to strike a pose. Only this season, as evidenced by the celeb-packed room, buzz has built around this young designer. While Andre Leon Talley has supported LaQuan since the beginning, for his second show, Talley brought along Diane von Furstenberg. Sandra Bernhard and Common were there (not together), and Serena Williams closed the show (maybe she is back with Common?).
Lots of Versailles-inspired looks. Marie Antoinette served as Smith’s muse as he imagined her in present-day, “[doning] only Haute Couture luxury while mixing in extreme lighthearted gaudiness.” I love the glitter-glamour of the gemstone embellished tunics and feathered two-pieces, evoking thoughts of 1970s Brian Eno.
